Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie PerkinsOne of my favorite YA romances of all time tells the store of Anna who’s father, the recently newly crown king of the New York Times Bestseller’s list, decides his eldest daughter must spend her senior year of high school in a fancy French boarding school. Anna travels across the Atlantic where she meets a ragtag group of friends who welcome her into the world. She also meets Etienne St. Clair, a beautiful British boy with a girlfriend who has more than just a little flirtatious spark with Anna. Every page of the book is filled with flirty wonderment that is literally impossible to put down.
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
I have to admit I am in the minority when I tell people that I preferred Fangirl to Rowell’s Printz Honor winning Eleanor & Park but I have my reasons. Eleanor & Park is a beautifully written book about two people finding each other when they really needed to find someone but I just didn’t connect with it. Fangirl with it’s main character who didn’t fit in but who loved a book series and writing was just a character that I connected with. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy the story of Cath, a freshman in college who’s life is changing. Her twin sister Wren is trying to separate from her and her new roommate doesn’t like plus her professor singles her out. But Cath is star in the fan fiction world where she is famous for her Simon Snow stories. Can Cath find happiness away from the forums?
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
I am normally all about the YA books but I just fell in love with Gruen’s New York Times Best Seller about Jacob who ran away from college and join the circus during the Great Depression. Jacob finds his place in the world and special connection with Rosie, an elephant, and the beautiful Marlena the wife of the cruel head animal trainer.
The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie RyanRyan’s book about Mary, a teen girl surviving in a post apocalyptic world over run by zombies, was released in 2009 before the zombie craze over took the world. Mary’s world has certain rules: always follow the Guardians, listen to the Sisterhood, and never enter the Forest of Hands and Teeth where the Unconsecrated dwell. However, Mary’s world changes when the Unconsecrated break through the wall that protects her village and Mary and a group of friends must flee into the forbidden forest to save themselves. This book has everything: fast paced action, unrequited love, and ZOMBIES!
