Hey everyone, it’s Sarah!
I have been working my way through the BEA ARCs I received this year and I have been going through a slew of young middle grade novels.
The Princess in Black and the Science Fair Scare by Shannon and Dean Hale
Princess Magnolia is attending the science fair and after looking around at the projects of her peers, she realizes hers isn’t as awesome as the others. One project is a volcano, which has a secret troublesome ingredient. When the monster in the volcano decides to make his presence known, the Princess in Black and a few of her sidekicks come to the rescue. This novel is a cute quick read with a variety of princesses. I have been hearing about this series forever and after getting the signed ARC from the publisher, I thought I would give it a try. I can certainly see some beginning chapter book readers getting into this story.
The Princess and the Absolutely Not a Princess by Emma Wunsch
Becky and I both received ARCs of this book at BEA from the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Here is a link to her post about this book. I enjoyed this book, it was cute an funny. Princess Miranda is forced to go to public school by QM (Queen Mother) and KD (King Dad). She has difficulty interacting with the other children because she has never really been around people her own age. Unfortunately, she sits next to a girl, Maude, who is obsessed with becoming an activist, raising chickens, and eating the most hated, hard boiled eggs. The two cannot stand each other, but with Miranda’s looming birthday party they may need to find a way to be together. I was laughing throughout this book. The illustrations were cute and I look forward to future books in this series.
