TBR Check-In: The Stonekeeper by Kazu Kibuishi

Hi All!  It’s Becky, again.  The kids at my library love The Amulet graphics novel series by Kazu Kibuishi and I have been meaning to read it for years and I finally got a chance to read the first book.  Here are my thoughts:

1238684Title: The Stonekeeper
Author: Kazu Kibuishi

Summary: Emily and Navin have just moved to a new house after the death of their father.  On their first night in their new home they are pulled into a magical world where they must save their mother and stop an evil Elf King to get home.

Review: I can see why the tweens in my community are so smitten with this series.  The story is a fast pace magical adventure.  Emily and Navin feel like everyday kids with their family issues and desire to just go home.  The story is beautifully illustrated with Kibuishi creating whimsical art with his magical land of moving houses, lifelike robots, and gloomy yet gorgeous settings.  The whole story comes together to be part adventure, part art, and part family drama that is just fun to read.

Final Rating: 4 out of 5
