Mock Mondays: Printz Awards

Hi Everyone!  Its Becky.  Welcome to our first Printz Award Mock Monday of 2019.  For anyone not familiar with the Printz Award it is an award given by the American Library Association for the best example of teen literature from the previous year.  You can find more information here. Here is my first selection:

Title: Heroine
Author: Mindy McGinnis
Summary: Mickey Catalan is the star catcher of her softball team. She is the best catcher in the state and is on the way to a college scholarship until the night of the accident. The accident which left Mickey with a broken hip, surgical scars, and too much pain for her to understand. Mickey escapes in the dulled world of oxycontin where she finally find peace but when prescription drugs begin to become difficult to come by Mickey must graduate to heroine.

Check Out Our Review:

Printz Considerations: McGinnis wrote an unflinching look at the opioid epidemic that is ravaging parts of our nation.  The book is relevant and honest which are things the Printz Committee has been known to honor in the past.  Plus, McGinnis’s The Female of the Species received a lot of buzz so McGinnis is already well known for her writing ability.
