Tween Title: Missing Pieces by Carly Anne West

Hi everyone, it’s Sarah!

I received this ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review from BEA. I feel completely out of it because I didn’t learn that this book was the prequel of a video game until after I finished the book. I know that it was noted on the side…but sometimes I am oblivious.

Nicky Roth moves from town to town because his father works for the newspaper business, a dying business. In their new town, Nicky quickly becomes friends with a neighbor across the street. Aaron and Nicky share a love of picking locks, even though Aaron is super strange. Nicky starts noticing strange and eerie things going on at the house across the street and with the history of a dead child at the amusement park that the father created, Nicky is drawn to the mystery.

This novel was hard to follow. It certainly felt like a prequel. There wasn’t a full story arc, many pieces were put forth but not addressed. I think it would have played better if I had a better familiarity with the video game, but as a book it cannot stand on its own.
