Mock Mondays: Caldecott

Hey everyone, it’s Sarah!

It is time to kick off the new year of mocks. I can’t believe it is time to move forward, I am still getting over my thoughts on last year’s awards. I was surprised, but still excited for all of the winners. A quick note about the award,  it is given by the American Library Association to the illustrator that gave the most distinguished contribution to children’s literature. Now, under much pressure, here is my first selection of this year…

Title: Tomorrow Most Likely
Author: Dave Eggers

(This book won’t be published until April 2019.)

Summary: A young boy talks about the things that might happen tomorrow. It focuses on the hopes for the future.

Caldecott Considerations: It isn’t surprising that Lane Smith has strong control over the visual illustrations of this book. His use of color creates a strong visual movement. It feels like you are bouncing through a colorful and diverse city. The rhyming/non-rhyming text, further reinforces the visual elements on the page. This book is gorgeous.
