The Vanishing Stair by Maureen Johnson

Happy Wednesday!  I have read almost everyone of Maureen Johnson’s books and I have loved all of them.  I was a huge fan of Truly Devious when it came out last year and have been waiting eagerly for the sequel.  I am here to tell you that Johnson’s fans will not be disappointed.  Check out our review of Truly Devious before you read the review for its sequel:

Author: Maureen Johnson
Note: I listened to the audio book.

Summary: Stevie Bell is back at Ellingham Academy and still trying to solve 80 year old mystery around the disappearance of Ellingham Academy founder’s wife and daughter.  However, before Stevie can solve the mystery she must find out what happened to her former classmate Ellie and face down her possibly relationship David, the boy she likes but the boy who lied to her and whose father is Stevie’s least favorite person.

Review: I came to a realization while listening to The Vanishing Stair…I just really like they way Johnson writes.  Stevie is a fabulous main character.  She is so smart in every way but where other people are concerned and that makes her so much more real.  Her brain moves so much faster than the average person and that makes it so much fun to follow her as she unwinds the decades old mysteries.  The mystery is slowly revealed with the final reveal both shocking but also making perfect sense. The entire book was entertaining and fun and I can’t wait for the final book in the series.

Final Rating: 4 out of 5
