Hi Everyone! It’s Becky, again. I received a copy of Triplicity by J. Mercer through YA Bound Book Tour here are my thoughts.
Author: J. Mercer
Note: I received a copy of this book from YA Bound Tours in exchange for an honest review.
Summary: It was just supposed to be fun, a week on an Alaskan cruise however for Navy, Jesse, and Isaiah it turns into a mystery. A thief is on board and the three must team up to prove their innocences.
Review: I had a very mixed reaction to this book. I thought that the basic premises was great and the setting of an Alaska cruise ship felt unique. Mercer did an excellent job of giving the reader a peek at the Alaskan landscape. However, I never connected with the narrative voice. The dialog among the teens felt a little dated and not particularly genuine. Plus, the behavior of one of male characters just didn’t work for me. It felt like he was manipulating a female character in a way that you wouldn’t expect to see in a novel written in the era of #MeToo. Also, the book hit on a major pet peeve of mine with each of the three narrators having the same voice. People who want a quick mystery that doesn’t require a lot of thinking will enjoy this one but other people may want to look elsewhere.
Final Rating: 2 out of 5
