Mock Mondays: On the Come Up by Angie Thomas

Hi Everyone!  Its Becky.  Welcome to Mock Monday: Printz Award.  For anyone not familiar with the Printz Award it is an award given by the American Library Association for the best example of teen literature from the previous year.  You can find more information here. Here is my first selection:

37589183Title: On the Come Up
Author: Angie Thomas
Summary: Bri has a dream. She wants to be the next big hip hop star. Bri knows that it’s a hard industry to break into but she has the talent and the legacy left by her deceased father who was a hip hop legend. Bri’s dream seems to be her grasp when a song she recorded goes viral however with fame Bri begins to lose control over her image and her words. Can Bri get her dream and stay true to herself?

Printz Consideration: Angie Thomas’ second book is filled with the same strong characters and ripped from the real world plot as her beloved first book.  Thomas’ build a world with realistic character dealing with relevant issues that is a perfect reflection of what many teens are dealing with today.  The book lacks fluff and pretense but is filled with heart and realism.  The Hate U Give was award Printz Honors and On the Come Up may make Thomas a two time winner.
