The Seven Torments of Amy and Craig by Don Zolidis

Hi All!  It’s Becky, again.  My book club just read The Seven Torments of Amy and Craig. This book was very different than I expected but not entriely in a bad way. Here are my thoughts:

42389296.jpgTitle: The Seven Torments of Amy and Craig
Author: Don Zolidis
Note: I listened to the audio book.

Summary: This is the “not love story” of Amy and Craig.  Amy is the beautiful class president and Craig is the Dungeons and Dragons playing nerd but somehow the two form a connection.  However, their relationship is not filled with rainbows and sunshine as the breakout and get back together through all seven of their torments.

What’s Good: This book is told through Craig’s perspective which was awesome because YA author’s so rarely give the boys a voice in YA romance books.  Plus, Craig’s narration was genuine and, at times, hilarious and made the book a whole lot more fun to read.

What’s Not So Good: I never fully connected with the story.  It was hard to warm up to Amy when she was never really developed beyond the girl who breaks Craig’s heart.  We learned a little about her past and her family but I never cared about her or care about her being with Craig.

Bottom Line: This was a fast YA romance with an original narrative voice that is great for fans of romantic realistic fiction.

Final Rating: 3 out of 5
