Tween Title: Angel and Bavar by Amy Wilson

Hiya everyone, it’s Sarah!

I received this as an eARC through Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

38462700Summary:

After Angel’s parents were murdered, she was sent to live in a new town with foster parents. While these new adults are nice, Angel refuses to make any connections. If her parents can be killed by a monster, what is to stop it from ever happening again (especially because no one believes that a monster could be responsible). However, one day, Angel notices Bavar, a strange boy who blends into the background. He seems to know more about the world around them.

Bavar is a loner himself. He doesn’t want to be noticed, so when Angel is determined to become his friend, Bavar becomes afraid that she will find out his secret. These two loners might just need to work together to keep the world safe from the unbelievable.

Review:

This book is sold as a Beauty and the Beast retell, but that is a very loose comparison. This novel is really its own fairy story. It was hard to get close to the main characters, but they did slightly grow on me. If the side characters were further developed, it would have fleshed out the story. I think young fantasy readers looking for a grittier tale would truly enjoy this book.
