Hi All! It’s Becky, again. I’m always on the look out for a good mystery story with a twist and I thought that I had found that when I discovered Last Girl Lied To by Laurie Elizabeth Flynn on Overdrive. This book was different than I expected. Here are my thoughts:
Title: Last Girl Lied To
Author: L. E. Flynn
Note: I listened to the audiobook.
Summary: Fiona had the perfect high school life that she carefully crafted to be what everyone else wanted. She lived her life based on what her mother and friends wanted. However, after a betrayal from her best friend and a chance encounter with a mysterious classmate, Trixie, Fiona’s life changed. Trixie makes Fiona forget everyone else’s expectations, then Trixie’s gone and her disappearance is reported as a suicide. Fiona’s world is turned upside down. She knows that Trixie didn’t kill herself and she will do whatever it takes to find out what happened to her friend.
Review: I’m having difficulty deciding how I feel about this book. The mystery felt perfectly fine and its resolution while not obvious felt adequate. However, I never really cared about Fiona or her journey. She never came across as likable or sympathetic instead she just kind of bumbled her way through the mystery. As I listened to the audio book I felt like at anytime I could walk away from Fiona and not care what happened to her. Yet, I did find myself invested in Trixie’s story and what happened to her. It was that aspect, the mystery driving the book, that made me finish listening to the audio book and makes it worth reading.
Final Rating: 3 out of 5
