Hi Everyone! It’s Becky, again. I was browsing on Overdrive and I found Meet Me There by Judy Corry. This book appeared to be a cute romance and it kind of was.
Title: Meet Me There (Ridgewater High Romance)
Author: Judy Corry
Note: I listened to the audio book.
Summary: Sixteen-year-old Ashlyn Brooks isn’t looking for a new boyfriend. Ashlyn and her far-from-perfect boyfriend just broke up and she doesn’t want any romantic entanglements. However, Ashlyn’s opinion on romance changes when she ducks into a dark chemistry lab and meets a charming new British student. The only problem is that they never actually see each other. Ashlyn has no idea who her mystery boy is and she definitely doesn’t expect him to be Luke, a boy who has spent the last year tormenting her in a prank war. Ashlyn doesn’t know that Luke is dealing with the death of his mother this past summer and that she is becoming the only bright thing in his life. Can Luke find a way to tell Ashlyn the truth so they can be together or will his lie keep them apart?
Review: I had a mixed reaction to this book. I enjoyed the basic premise of two people connecting without being able to see each other. Corry did a great job of making Ashlyn and Luke’s interacting without actually seeing each other into a flirty fun game. However, it was difficult for me to get over the fact that Luke was lying to Ashlyn throughout most of the novel. Yes, I get that it was a plot device but it also kind of made Luke a horrible character. He was sympathetic and charming and I should have wanted him and Ashlyn to fall in love but his actions felt more than a little manipulative and prevented me from entirely getting on board with their relationship. Also, the books pacing felt a little off with parts of the story feeling a little clunky with the momentum being a little choppy at times. However, even with those issues this was a cute book and I plan to read more from the author in the future.
Final Rating: 3 out of 5
