What We’re Excited About: April Books!

Hi All!  Greetings from quarantine.   We are doing our best to self-isolate and help stop the spread COVID-19 and the best way to do that is to stay home with a good book.  Here are a few books coming out next month that we can’t wait to stay home and read.

Becky’s List
Check, Please! Book 2: Sticks & Scones 2 by Ngozi Ukazu
Release Date: April 7
I loved Ukazu’s first graphic novel in this series and I can’t wait to revisit Bitty as he continues his journey in the world of college hockey and find out if he and Jack are OTP.  This book is going to be full of great illustrations, hysterical dialog, and (hopefully) adorable romantic moments.

The Empire of Dreams by Rae Carson
Release Date: April 7
Rae Carson’s Fire and Thorns series was a happy surprise for me when I read the first book in the series.  I quickly found myself completely fascinated by Elisa and her journey from being a king’s second daughter to a BA Empress.  I was beyond excited when it was announced there would be a new book in the series.  This book follows Red Sparkle Stone as she goes on her own journey of self-discovery and I…Can…Not…Wait…To…Read…It!

The Best Laid Plans by Cameron Lund
Release Date: April
I love books about friends becoming more than friends and this book just looks super cute.  Eighteen-year-old Keeley hates the fact that she is the last virgin in her group.  She decides that she is going to take over her own destiny and find someone to take her virginity.  Keeley meets a cute college student she likes but whose experience intimidates her.  Keeley turns to Andrew her friend with experience who is willing to help her gain experience.  The only problem is what will happen when Keeley and Andrew’s feels start to become more than friendly.  This book looks like it’s going to be adorable and filled with romcom moments that I know will just be delightful to read.

Sarah’s List

Goodbye from Nowhere by Sara Zarr

Release Date: April 7th

51193935. sx318 sy475

Sara Zarr has shown up all over my TBR list and previously read. I typically enjoy her books with the romance flavors. This upcoming book lives in the family drama realm and I am looking for some fictional drama in my life. Kyle finds out that his mother is having an affair and he torches his life out of frustration because of it. His family is insistent that he doesn’t tell anyone, which is going to be extremely difficult at the family reunion. Kyle is going to have to grapple with truth and his values.

Little Universes by Heather Demetrios

Release date: April 7th

I have only read one other book by Demetrios before, but it was one of my favorites of the year (Something Real). I think this is going to be another book that brings the family drama with possible romance notes. This novel follows two sisters who have lost their parents to a natural disaster. As they deal with the fallout of their grief, their relationship becomes strained. Will these sisters be able to find their way back to each other?

The Lightness of Hands by Jeff Garvin

Release Date: April 14th

I loved the Symptoms of Being Human, so I am ready to read anything new by Garvin. The psychology in Symptoms looks like it will appear within this novel as the main character, Ellie, deals with her Bipolar Disorder. Ellie’s father is a washed up stage magician and she has taken it upon herself to get him slotted for a comeback. If only she can convince him to follow through.
