Teen Book Review: Tarot by Marissa Kennerson

Hey all, it’s Sarah!

I love books told through the guise of Tarot, so basically, if I see that in the description, I am going to read it. I got this as an eARC through Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

Author: Marissa Kennerson

Book Summary:

Anna has been trapped in a tower all her life and spends her time creating tapestries of different worlds of her own design. She is basically like Rapunzel/Lady of Shallot mixed with some witchy magic. On her sixteenth birthday, Anna is sentenced to die by who she thought was her father. Anna realizes that she is coming into the power passed down by her true father, a high magician. Anna’s friends, the Hermit, Magician, and Fool help her escape the Tower. She disappears into a new world of Cups, who know little of her world. While she tries to keep things secret, new bad things start happening in Cups and Anna is the only new thing…so she must be the cause. While Anna get to keep her freedom and help her friends stay alive?

Book Review:

I like pieces of this story and other pieces were challenge to accept. I wish that the connection between the Tarot wasn’t so obvious, I wish that it was more of a secret to discover, as opposed to the characters and such being name after their cards. I never really became invested in the world of Cups, though the potential was there. I think this was a great concept, but it didn’t fully turn into something that I could truly grab onto. It was a struggle to get through this novel because I wasn’t invested in where the characters were going.
