Hey everyone, it’s Sarah!
Shout out to the Cancer star sign babies. If you were born between June 21st through July 22nd, this booklist is going to totally be your jam. First, we have to get to know our Cancer friends are known for and what makes them tick. Do you have that emotionally conscious friend, if so, they are probably a Cancer. Emotions run high with this star sign, which can lead them to being a bit, shall I say…sensitive. Don’t get upset Cancer! We still love you, especially because you are so connected to your emotions that you are almost empathic. These swirling emotions can create a quite moody character, (maniacally rubs hands) I love those characters as romantic leads. Hello Mr. Darcy! This astrological crab likes to hide out in their shell, but with so much to offer, my Leo side can’t help but bring them out to the light.
Cancer Star Sign Booklist:
The Infinite Noise by Lauren Shippen
Caleb is the big lovable jock giant, who also happens to be empathic. This book will appeal to your emotional side Cancers. Caleb is overwhelmed by the emotional noise around him and his only spot of calm comes when he is around Adam. Caleb is desperate to get to know this strange boy and from there the develop a nearly unshakeable bond. I thought the romance was sweet. The plot didn’t move fast, but the connections between characters pushed the story along.
Pride by Ibi Zoboi
I can’t think about this sign without thinking about Mr. Darcy…it is like him to a T. Also, who doesn’t want a little more Darcy in their life? Zoboi’s Pride is an obvious choice. Zuri lives in Brooklyn and loves her home and community. Things are thrown into an uproar when the wealthy Darcy family moves across the street. Zuri had a bad run-in with Darius Darcy, but when Zuri’s sister falls for his brother Ainsley, Zuri is going to need to find a way to stay civil. This solid contemporary re-tell of Pride and Prejudice knocked it out of the park. The audiobook was especially grand, since Elizabeth Acevedo reads it.
Wreck by Kirstin Cronn-Mills
I think it is important to include a book all about the feels. This novel rips your heart out, but does it so beautifully that you can’t look away. I love this author and can’t wait for more. Tobin’s extremely active paramedic father is diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS) and he quickly loses control of the life he had. Tobin is struggling through her senior year, while also trying to be with her dying father as much as possible. It is difficult for Tobin to plan her future after high school and (most probably) after her father. Tobin is going to be alone, since her mother abandoned her years ago to a fancier life in France. Tobin feels like her control is slipping, especially as she works hard to respect her father’s choices.
Say You’ll Remember Me by Katie McGarry
When I think emotions and broody hot guys, I think Katie McGarry. Her books always have an even dose of both, without being off-putting. After taking the fall for a crime he didn’t commit, spending time in juvie, and going through a new wilderness program created by the governor, Drix wants to completely transform his life. He is expected to be the poster boy for the wilderness program and participate in the governor’s campaign. While there, Drix meets and begins to fall in love with the governor’s daughter, Ellison. She is the perfect daughter, or has become the perfect daughter because her parents have molded her into the best example of child. Ellison wants to be a computer coder, but her parents have convinced her that she needs to fulfill her commitment to the campaign before even thinking about coding. Will Drix be able to maintain his transformation and will Elle be able to become the person she is meant to be? Will their love survive in the midst of all of this?
Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee
Incorrigible Monty isn’t stuck in his shell, but the personal growth he experiences throughout this novel is enough to inspire any shy Cancer to take a chance. Monty, his best friend Percy and his sister are taking one last trip across Europe before they are forced into marriage and other atrocious futures. Monty is a lackadaisical playboy, but his deep connection with Percy may just be enough to get him to think clearly about his actions and their impact on others.
