What We’re Excited About: September Books!

Hi Everyone!  Summer is winding down and the kids soon will be heading back to school (in person or virtually).  What is a better way to celebrate the start of school than with exciting new books?  Here are just a few of the titles being released in September that we can’t wait for.

Becky’s List

The Lost Book of White by Cassandra Clare
Release Date: September 1
34605974._SY475_
I have been a fan of Clare’s Mortal Instrument Series since I first read City of Bones all the way back in 2013.  About halfway through the series my favorite character became Alec Lightwood.  I especially love the books about Alec and his life with his love Magnus.  I can’t wait to read about their new magical adventure that leads them to Shanghai where they have to steal back the Book of White that was taken from their apartment.  I’m looking forward to a magical adventure filled with humor and just a little romance.

The Other Side of the Sky by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner
Release Date: September 8
40599772._SY475_
I loved Kaufman and Spooner’s Starbound Series and I was really excited to see that they have a new book.  This time instead of starcrossed lovers in space we have two people who have a shared destiny even though he is the prince of a world miles above the surface of the Earth and she the goddess of the society on the Earth’s surface.  I am sure this is going to be a sweeping romantic sci-fi and I just have to read it.

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Release Date:
September 2952501482._SY475_For the past couple of years a Jennifer Lynn Barnes book has been on my yearly top ten list and I’m hoping her newest book will make the list for 2020.  This time we follow Avery who was just trying to get through high school but her world is changed when a billionaire, she never met, leaves her his entire fortune.  Avery must move into a dead man’s estate with his family that had been cut out of the will and try to survive.  This book just sounds awesome!

Sarah’s List

We Are Not Free by Traci Chee

Release Date: September 1st

This book is getting Printz buzz and I can totally see why. The description is beautiful alone, so I can’t wait to read what is inside. This novel continues the discussion on the appalling American behavior during World War II. Our country had its own concentration camps for those of Japanese descent. It was presented as a way to keep people safe, when really it was a serious injustice. I never learned about this part of American history in school and it is extremely important that we acknowledge this part of our history and work to never repeat it.

The Roommate by Rosie Danan

Release Date: September 15th

45023611

After reading some great adult romance books, I am ready for another good one. When I read the description on this book, I was sold. While this book seems far too scandalous for our younger teenage readers, the older ones might find this novel to be a steamy good time.

Punching the Air by Ibi Zoboi & Yusef Salaam

Release Date: September 1st

49151299

This novel in verse continues the conversation on prison reform and the injustice of the justice system in the black community. I haven’t decided if I am going to listen to this book or read it. I feel that this has potential for being a powerful audiobook, like Stamped by Jason Reynolds.

Do you have any reads coming up this month that you just can’t wait to get your hands on?

I’ve heard that The Roommate is super steamy and I can’t wait for that. Also, I hadn’t heard of that new one from Zoboi and Salaam. It sounds really good and I have loved other works by Zoboi – thanks for putting it on my radar!
