Graphic Novel Review: Chef Yasmina and the Potato Panic by Wauter Mannaert

Hey everyone, it’s Sarah!

I am looking for good graphic novels that have been recently published and this book has been getting lots of love.

Title: Chef Yasmina and the Potato Panic

Author: Wauter Mannaert

Yasmina is an awesome chef, who likes to add fresh ingredients to her creations. He good friends both garden, one uses pesticides and the other leaves things to seed and grow naturally. Yasmina appreciates all of the ingredients that come from these gardens and uses them to create meals for her father. One day, a fast food like business takes over the locals gardens and begins planting strange potatoes. Yasmina struggles to find fresh ingredients, since all food sources have been replaced with this new potato. People are becoming ravenous for this new food and their behavior is becoming scary. Yasmina and her fresh food might be the only way to save her town from these new potatoes.

The style of this book was different from the typical style of a tween graphic novel. While it does take sometime to get used to, it is a fun new way of interacting with a story. This novel relies heavily on the visual component, using a smattering of text. Certain plot points and violent scenes make this a better novel for older tween readers.
