Hi Everyone! It’s Becky. I have a complicated relationship with Marie Lu’s books. I have really enjoyed some of Lu’s books, but other books I didn’t like. Unfortunately, Skyhunter was disappointing.
Author: Marie Lu
Note: I listened to the audiobook.
Summary:Talin is part of the elite fighter in the country of Mara. Talin, a former refugee, most fight to keep her position among the Strikers. Talin’s position is challenged when she is forced to partner with a prisoner with connections with their enemy. Can Talin protect her new home and her position among the Strikers, or will she lose everything?
Review: As I read Skyhunter, I kept asking myself: who is this book written for? The book is a YA science fiction, but it doesn’t feel like a book that the average teen would want to read. Lu’s book is long; it is 400 pages. In the past few years, YA books have gotten longer, but Skyhunter felt like there were unnecessary chapters that did nothing other than slow down the plot. I would have happily read 100s of extra pages if the characters were well developed, but I never cared about Talin or the other Strikers. Plus, there is a romance angle that felt forced and added nothing to the plot. I am sure some people will enjoy this book, but for me it was disappointing.
